11 советов по сдаче английского экзамена IELTS Speaking Part 1

Первая часть IELTS Speaking длится 4-5 минут. Это не дискуссия, это вопрос — ответ. Обычно экзаменатор задает 12 вопросов из 3-х тем.

Первый вопрос, как правило, из таких тем, как Work, Study, Home, Hometown.

Если экзаменатор собирается задать вопрос о работе или учебе, то первый будет «Do you work or do you study?».
Если кандидат только закончил университет, но еще не нашел работу, можно ответить «I’ve just finished the university, but I don’t have a job yet».

IELTS Speaking Part 1

Давайте разберемся, что составляет хороший ответ на IELTS Speaking Part 1, рассмотрим возможные плохие и хорошие ответы, какие стратегии можно применять, чтобы получи лучший бал или не потерять бал.

11 советов по сдаче IELTS Speaking Part 1

1. Ответы должны быть полными

В начале, экзаменатор задаст стандартный набор вопросов:
— What’s your name?
— Where are you from?
— Can I see some identification, please?

Плохой ответ
Moscow.

Лучше ответ
I am from Moscow.

Плохой ответ
Kate.

Лучше ответ
My name’s Kate.

2. Специфические вопросы

Далее идут более специфичные вопросы. Необходимо давать расширенные ответы и включать:

— детали
— примеры.

Рассмотрим типичные вопросы и приведем плохие — хорошие ответы.

Вопрос
Describe your hometown.

Плохой ответ
I come from Azov. It’s a small town.

Ответ слишком короткий и отсутствуют детали и примеры.

3.Придерживаться темы

Следующая типичная ошибка IELTS Speaking Part 1 — не придерживаться топика, отходить от темы вопроса.

Вопрос
Describe your hometown.

Плохой ответ
I’m from Moscow. As you may know, Moscow is the capital of Russia. I’m really proud of my city and I miss it when I’m not there. In my neighborhood, there are many cafes and parks where I like to hang out with friends in the evening.

На первый взгляд, кажется ответ хороший, больше информации. Но отвечает ли кандидат на поставленный вопрос? – Нет.
Ответ содержит чувства кандидат о родном городе, но не описывает надлежащим образом сам родной город.

Хороший ответ
I come from Moscow. It’s a very large city, and also the capital, so it’s very busy and crowded. It’s the kind of place where people always seem to be in a hurry. The center has a lot of historical buildings and monuments, while out of the center there are mostly just residential areas.

Ответ хорош, даны детали, все по теме вопроса, нет «отхождений» от темы, используются linking words.

СОВЕТ
Обращать внимание на вопросительное слово, грамматическое время вопроса.

Например:
How often do you …?
Where did you …?
When did you …?
How long have you been …?
What kind of …?
What’s your favorite ….?
Do you prefer …?
What do you usually …?
Do you ever…?
Have you ever…? – Данный вопрос это вопрос о прошедшем, поэтому нужно говорить о том, что было в прошлом.

Внимательно следить, задается ли вопрос к самому кандидату или о людях в его стране, городе и т.д.

Например:
Do you….?
What do you …?
или
What do people…?

4. Использовать более сложную лексику

Если цель получить более высокий бал на IELTS Speaking – необходимо использовать более интересную лексику, и, следовательно, не использовать Basic Vocabulary.

Поэтому важно иметь в запасе набор ключевых слов по каждой теме уровня, соответствующего балу, на который нацелен кандидат.

Часть первая – общие топики. Поэтому, это, сравнительно, не так сложно подготовить несколько ключевых фраз из более сложной лексики, по каждой теме.

Приведем пример из Oxford Online Video

Вопрос
Describe you home.

Ответ похуже
I live in an apartment in a big building. My apartment has four rooms. There is a bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen. The fourth room is a … Um… I forgot the word in English.

Лучше ответ
I live in a mid-size apartment in a tower block. It has four rooms in total, with a tiny bedroom, an open-plan living room with a dining area, and a kitchen. Then there’s a… What’s the word? Like an office, where I do some work or studying sometimes.

Чем ответ лучше, давайте сравним: в первой части используется big building, во второй tower block. Во втором ответе используется больше интересных прилагательных, например, mid-sized, tiny, open-plan.

Давайте приведем больше примеров basic vocabulary и синонимов уровня повыше:
I like – I enjoy, I prefer
food – cuisine
friends – acquaintance.

Читать статью Как заменить слова like/dislike
Читать статью Как заменить слово very
Читать стьтью Синонимы для экзаменов IELTS TOEFL FCE CAE CPE

СОВЕТ
Если забыл или не знаешь слово, не сдаваться, а подобрать синонимы, объяснить значение слова.
Как видно из примеров выше. Оба кандидата забыли слова, но второй кандидат справился с проблемой на много лучше.

В то время как первый кандидат просто констатирует факт о незнании слова. Второй кандидат делает попытку и находит способ, объяснить значение.

Важно, если не знаешь слово или не получается вспомнить, не сдаваться, попытаться объяснить другими словами. Это поможет не снизить бал.

5. Использовать linking words and structures в ответах по IELTS Speaking Part 1

Примеры использования linking words на IELTS Speaking Part 1

Хуже ответ
My hometown is both traditional and modern. Tradition is preserved by a number of festivals celebrated by local people. It is starting to be developed with increasing number of infrastructures and establishments.
Не хватает linking words.

Ответ лучше
My hometown is both traditional and modern. On the one hand, tradition is preserved by a number of festivals celebrated by local people. Also, it is starting to be developed with increasing number of infrastructures and establishments.

Используются linking words

6. Использовать более сложную грамматику для IELTS Speaking

— Модальные глаголы (Modal verbs for IELTS)
Parents should/ought to stop their children watching too much television.
The newspaper shouldn’t have/ mustn’t have printed the rumor without concrete evidence.
I believe people must vote at elections.
With one of the new generation of food processors, cooks won’t have to I won’t need to/needn’t peel or chop any more.

— Passive voice
It was discovered.
He was happy to have been chosen.

— Present Continuous
I am reading an interesting book.

— Simple Past, Present Perfect, Present Perfect Continuous
I’ve lived in… for 5 years.
I’ve been interested in … for 3 years.
I’ve just heard about…
I’ve been studying…

— Причастия/причастные обороты
Having studied hard, I passed the exam.
Founded in 1979, the organization has a long history.

Давайте обратно приведем пример из видео Oxford English Online

Вопрос
What do you like doing in your free time?

Хороший ответ
I have a lot of different hobbies. What do I depends on my mood. For example, if I’m feeling energetic, I like to play basketball or go jogging. If I want to relax, I read a book or cook something, I find cooking very relaxing.

Ответ содержит детали, примеры, нет грамматических ошибок.

Но в реальности, не всегда кандидаты отвечают так… При не достаточном уровне или если кандидат очень нервничает, может развиться два варианта событий.

Первый вариант
I have lots of hobbies. I’m doing different things depending on what’s my mood. For example, if I am very energy, I will play basketball or go to jogging. If I want to relaxation, I read some books or cook something. Cooking is relaxing to me.

В данном тексте много ошибок.

Второй вариант
I have many hobbies. Sometimes I play basketball or go jogging. Sometimes I read or cook. Cooking is relaxing.

My most favorite drink is….
Где ошибка? — Most не сочетается со словом favorite. Слово favorite уже предполагает в себе наивысшую степень.

СОВЕТ 2
My favorite drink is green tea which I find is very refreshing in all kinds of weather.

Ответ содержит более сложную грамматику, вставное предложение (I find между подлежащим и сказуемым which и is) добавляет баллы. Кроме того прямой ответ дополняется указанием причины и времени.

7. В своем ответ следует избегать повторения слов из вопроса экзаменатора

Is sport important in your life. – Yes, sport is important in my life.

Не следует использовать такие фразы — заполнители в первой части IELTS как «Well, that’s an interesting question».

Использование данных фраз в первой части IELTS Speaking снизит бал. Подобные фразы хорошо использовать на IELTS Speaking Part 3.

Почему не следует их использовать в первой части? — Потому что такие фразы не подходят для беседы на общие «банальные» темы.

Выглядит, как будто кандидат не умело выигрывает время, чтобы собраться с мыслями на самой легкой части IELTS Speaking.

Если все-таки нужно как-то собраться мыслями, можно использовать «Well…», «Well, actually…».

IELTS Speaking.

70% шанс, что экзаменатор спросит «Do you work or do you study?»

Speaking:

Being a … I have … (Being a manager I have to fire people)
Having gained experience…I think I have a chance…
Weren’t it for my … (Weren’t it for my immigration I would have never studied so hard)
Not only…, but also… (Not only is my job lucrative, but also very challenging)
I’m used to Ving … (I’m used to working at close-knit teams)
I can’t help Ving … (I can’t help mentioning my brother…)
